Project “Solar street lighting for the fishermen’s port and Bebnine El Abdeh main road”
Description
RMF BALADI worked with Bebnine El Abdeh Municipality to install a solar street lighting system in the village’s main roads and fishermen’s port, helping improve the living conditions in the village. Prior to USAID assistance, Bebnine main road and the fishermen’s port were not lit at night during electricity blackout periods, and this forced shop-owners to close their shops at dawn and rendered fishermen’s works riskier. Prior to this project, Bebnine El Abdeh suffered from long hours of darkness. The project was completed and is operational since December 2019. 6,714 persons continue to benefit from street lighting system, including 3,592 women and 4,340 youth. The overall number of beneficiaries till the end of 2021 is 7,066.

Project “Generation of electricity for the village through the installation of a solar system in Menjez”
Menjez (Akkar – Akkar)
Description
RMF BALADI worked with Menjez Municipality to install a solar farm in the village. The solar farm helps reduce the consumption of fuel of the diesel generators and provides back-up electricity to the village. It was installed and operational since 2019. Besides, USAID assistance includes a 155 KVA diesel generator and a load management system, which is an efficient tool to ensure a smooth shifting between the two diesel generators depending on the electrical load in the village, with the aim of optimizing PV usage and fuel consumption. Prior to this project, Menjez suffered from long hours of power shortage.
The overall number of beneficiaries till the end of 2021 is 1,391 including 1,230 residents from Menjez (761 women and 482 youth) and 19 SMEs
Objectives
The main objectives of the project are to help Menjez residents decrease their energy bill and provide back-up electricity. The project also helped generate job opportunities, and increase awareness of local population on renewable energy.

Project “Generation of electricity for the village through the installation of a solar system in Beshmezzine”
Beshmezzine (North Lebanon – Koura)
Description
RMF BALADI worked with Beshmezzine Municipality to install a solar farm in the village. The solar farm helps reduce the consumption of fuel of the diesel generators and provides back-up electricity to the village. It was installed and operational since February 2019. Storage batteries integrated to the farm ensure continuous electricity to the village’s public places and community centers. Prior to this project, Beshmezzine suffered from long hours of power shortage and a high cost of fuel for back-up electricity. Quality of back-up electricity in the village is also improved, which helps enhance the livelihood of 3,533 persons (2,150 women and 1,710 youth) and 20 MSMES consisting of 20 members. Savings from the project were used to establish a scholarship fund to assist socio-economically disadvantaged children in the payment of their tuition on a yearly basis. The overall number of beneficiaries till the end of 2021 is 3,567.

The main objectives of the project are to help Beshmezzine residents decrease their energy bill and provide back-up electricity. The project also helped generate job opportunities, increase the awareness of the local population on renewable energy, and establish a scholarship fund.

Project “Generation of electricity for the village through the installation of a solar system in Kfaryasheet”
Kfaryasheet (North Lebanon – Zgharta)
Description
RMF BALADI worked with Kfaryasheet Municipality to establish a 60 kWp solar farm which is connected to the village’s municipal diesel generator to help reduce the generator’s fuel consumption. Besides, the project comprises the installation of 144 individual solar water heaters (SWHs) on underprivileged households’ roofs, the installation of 26 standalone solar street lighting systems, and the replacement of additional 20 traditional street lighting lamps with LED lamps. Solar water heaters reduce household energy bills by 30 percent, while the solar farm reduces dependency on fossil fuel by 30 percent. The project was installed and operational since July 2021. Prior to this project, Kfaryasheet community suffered from long hours of power shortage. The overall number of beneficiaries till the end of 2021 is 920
Objectives
The main objectives of the project are to provide reliable back-up electricity to the community, reduce energy bills at municipal and household levels, improve energy efficiency, and reduce dependence on fossil fuels.

Project “Install 80 solar water heaters and a 250 KVA generator in the village to reduce the electricity bill of residents”
Aintourine (Zgharta – North Lebanon)
Description
RMF BALADI worked with Aintourine Municipality to install 80 household Solar Water Heaters (SWH) in the village. SWHs provide beneficiaries with hot water for free and allow beneficiaries to reduce their electric bills by 35%, a timely reduction given the high cost of energy. They are installed and operational since March 2021. Besides, RMF BALADI provided Aintourine Municipality with a 250 KVA diesel generator, which provides back-up electricity to the village at an affordable tariff. The generator is operational since October 2021.
650 residents from Aintourine continue to benefit from this project, including 350 women and 228 youth

Description
RMF BALADI worked with Jran Municipality to equip the village with a solar energy system coupled to the municipal diesel generator providing back-up electricity.
This intervention, which was completed in July 2019, helps reduce the generator’s diesel consumption and therefore the average cost of electricity on households. The total number of beneficiaries till date is 720.
