Project “Establish a cold storage, sorting and packaging facility for apples and other fruits”
Description
RMF BALADI worked with the municipality and the community of Ehmej to establish a fruit cold storage, sorting and packing facility. Prior to this project, farmers in Ehmej and ten surrounding villages did not have access to a conveniently located facility to safely store their harvest, mostly apples, extend marketing periods, and obtain higher off-season selling prices. The project was completed in September 2016. More than 100,000 crates have been deposited in the center since it became operational, and the number of direct beneficiaries until the end of 2021 is 731.
Objectives
The main objective of the project is to allow local farmers to store their crops at the facility at affordable prices.

Project “Build an entrepreneurial hub for the fishing sector”
Jounieh (Mount Lebanon – Kesrwan)
Description
RMF BALADI worked with the municipality Jounieh to build an entrepreneurial hub for the fishing sector. The project consisted in rehabilitating part of the port harbor, establishing a wholesale fish auctioning center, and enhancing the fishermen’s operational premises including their boat repair workshop, and the fish selling and cooking venue responding to international food safety measures. Prior to this project, the fishing sector in Jounieh lacked development and maintenance. The project was completed in October 2015. The overall total number of beneficiaries until the end of 2021 is 35,464.
Objectives
The main objective of the project is to benefit the fishing cooperative and the fishing community in Jounieh in line with the municipal strategy to re-activate the town’s harbor as an important economic center in the area.

Project “Establishing an olive table processing facility”
Roum (South Lebanon – Jezzine)
Description
RMF BALADI worked with the Union of Jezzine Municipalities to construct and equip a table olive processing facility located in Roum. The BALADI project helped build and equip the premises with storing, sorting, grading, processing and packaging equipment, in line with food safety standards. Prior to this project, the area lacked such a facility, despite having abundant production of olive in the region. The project was completed in November 2016. The overall total number of direct beneficiaries having benefited from trainings and job creation until the end of 2021 is 40.

The main objective of the project is to increase fresh olives sales the socio-economic situation in the region.

Project “Improving eco-tourism in Batloun and equipping a briquetting facility”
Batloun (Mount Lebanon – Shouf)
Description
RMF BALADI worked with Batloun Municipality to improve local development in the village by providing pruning and wood-chip briquetting equipment, establishing a 20-kilometer hiking trail, and building a tourist information center.
Trainings were provided in order to ensure a proper operation of the project activities. The project, which was completed in August 2019, helped create jobs and income for farmers from collecting and transforming pruned remnants of vegetation into utilizable heating logs. The overall number of beneficiaries till the end of 2021 is 4,807.

The main objective of the project is to improve the socio-economic conditions of residents.

Project “Establishing a chocolate production workshop in Kaitouly to provide working opportunities and income for the local village residents”
Kaitouly (South Lebanon – Jezzine)
Description
RMF BALADI worked with Kaitouly Municipality to establish the Kaitouly chocolate factory. The factory is composed of a one-floor premise fully equipped with equipment for the production of chocolate.
The project was completed in February 2020, and will help create 13 jobs. The overall number of beneficiaries till the end of 2021 is 20.

Project “Equip a community bakery”
Mashha (Akkar – Akkar)
Description
RMF BALADI worked with Mashha Municipality to equip a community bakery for producing Arabic bread. The project was completed in August 2021.
The bakery, operated by Akkarouna, serves 9,000 beneficiaries in Mashha and surrounding villages with the provision of Arabic bread. The bakery created job opportunities for 16 persons.
Objectives
The main objectives of the project are to enhance food security in Mashha and generate job opportunities for community members especially women.

Akkarouna NGO operates the bakery in partnership with the Social Affairs Committee of Mashha municipality.

Project “Equip an agro food processing and packaging facility”
Bkassine (Jezzine – South Lebanon)
Description
RMF BALADI worked with Bkassine Municipality to rehabilitate and equip an agro-food processing and packaging facility located in the village. This intervention aims at enhancing the socio-economic condition of women and farmers in the village. BALADI provided training and will create employment opportunities to 25 women to work on the production of local and traditional food products. Besides, this facility helps generate revenues to local farmers since their crops are used in the production of food. MSMEs are also contracted for distribution, sales, and other services. The equipped center project is operational since June 2021.
The total number of beneficiaries of this project till date is 34.
Objectives
The main objectives of the project are to enhance socio economic conditions in Bkassine, generate job opportunities for women, generate revenues to local farmers, and provide locally produced agro foods in respect to national standards.
